Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: The Deepest Expression of Modern Luxury

Published 24 March 2026

The Most Comprehensive Maybach Transformation Yet

The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class enters 2026 as the most extensively updated Maybach in the model’s history, marking a decisive evolution of flagship luxury within the Mercedes-Benz Group portfolio. Introduced at a symbolic moment when Mercedes-Benz celebrates 140 years since the invention of the automobile, the new S-Class also continues the 105-year heritage of the Maybach name as a benchmark of automotive refinement. Rather than focusing on isolated upgrades, Mercedes-Maybach has approached this generation as a complete reinterpretation of what a modern luxury saloon should represent, technically, emotionally and digitally. For the first time, the brand’s proprietary MB.OS operating system arrives in a Maybach model, introducing a seamless digital architecture that connects vehicle systems, cloud-based intelligence and user interaction in one elegant ecosystem. The result is a limousine designed not simply for transport, but as a moving sanctuary where technology disappears behind calm usability. First customer deliveries begin in Europe from 25 March 2026, with global rollout following shortly after. Mercedes-Maybach positions this new S-Class as a strategic pillar in its expanding top-end segment, underlining how central ultra-luxury now is to the brand’s long-term direction.

Exterior Authority Defined by Precision and Ceremony

The most immediate visual transformation appears at the front, where the signature Maybach grille has been enlarged by 20 percent and sculpted with greater depth to create stronger visual authority. Optional illumination around the grille frame introduces a ceremonial arrival effect, while the Maybach wordmark itself is now subtly lit for the first time. Depending on market availability, even the upright bonnet star and the Maybach emblem on the C-pillar can be illuminated, reinforcing the idea that every interaction with the vehicle should feel deliberate and theatrical without becoming ostentatious. The double-star headlamps gain rose-gold detailing, adding jewellery-like refinement, while the lower air intakes incorporate chrome-rendered Maybach patterns that emphasise craftsmanship even in aerodynamic elements. A standout technical detail appears in the forged wheels: all silver-finished forged wheel designs now feature a floating Mercedes-Benz star mounted on a ball-bearing mechanism that remains perfectly upright while driving, a small but striking demonstration of engineering devoted purely to elegance. New 21-inch MANUFAKTUR forged wheels in gold finish and 20-inch polished forged designs expand personalisation, while the Night Series package now adds Nautic Blue Metallic to its darker design palette. At the rear, redesigned tail lamps echo the front light signature, and a subtle side-sill projector casts the Maybach wordmark onto the ground when passengers enter or leave the car.

A Cabin Designed as a Private Lounge

Inside, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class advances the brand’s signature cocooning philosophy through a carefully orchestrated balance of analogue craftsmanship and digital calm. The redesigned dashboard integrates the latest MBUX Superscreen architecture beneath a single glass surface, combining central and passenger displays while preserving visual serenity. Maybach-specific graphics use rose-gold tones, delicate textures and illuminated depth to create a digital environment that feels handcrafted rather than merely technical. The centre console has been reworked around new sculptural trim finishes, including open-pore oak and amber-brown wood in a herringbone pattern, while rear passengers benefit from redesigned controls and dedicated holders precisely shaped for silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes. A refrigerated compartment behind the rear armrest remains one of the defining Maybach luxuries, capable of storing multiple bottles while maintaining ideal serving temperature. For the first time, the model also introduces a fully leather-free interior option: finely embossed ARTICO man-made leather is paired with the new Mirville textile, a linen-and-recycled-polyester material designed to evoke natural fibres while maintaining durability expected of flagship luxury. Deep white piping and open diamond stitching complete the effect. Ambient lighting now uses 199 LEDs with ten colour worlds and 64 selectable shades, including exclusive Maybach tones such as Rose Gold White and Amethyst Glow, responding dynamically to voice commands, climate settings and driver-assistance alerts.

Electrified Power and AI-Driven Refinement

Beneath its calm exterior, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class introduces thoroughly re-engineered electrified combustion engines that combine stronger performance with greater efficiency and lower emissions readiness. In Europe, the flagship S 680 adopts the latest evolution of the M177 Evo V8, producing 450 kW plus 17 kW from mild-hybrid assistance and delivering 850 Nm plus an additional 205 Nm of electrically supported torque. This places it effectively at the level of the current V12, which remains available only in selected global markets. The S 580 receives a more powerful V8 with 395 kW, while the plug-in hybrid S 580 e combines a revised inline-six engine with EQ Hybrid technology to offer around 100 kilometres of electric driving range. Ride comfort benefits from a new predictive version of AIRMATIC suspension, which uses cloud-based road data from other Mercedes vehicles to prepare damping settings before the car even reaches surface imperfections. Digitally, MB.OS introduces a new layer of intelligence through the latest MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by technologies including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini, enabling contextual conversation and memory of previous interactions. Advanced assistance systems such as MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO and new parking functions supported by a water-cooled onboard supercomputer further future-proof the car. In the new Maybach, performance is no longer separated from luxury, it exists quietly underneath it, fully integrated and almost invisible, exactly as modern flagship comfort now demands.
